Although Andy was a gang member, he still had definite dreams for his future. He planned to marry Laura, "get out of the neighborhood" and have a lot of kids. His dreams, of course, would never be realized due to his tragic death.
* What are your dreams for the future? How do you plan to make them come true? What might some "obstacles" be in your life?
Your initial response is due Thursday the 20th and a second post in reply to one of your classmates initial posts is due Sunday the 23rd. Your response should be a MINIMUM of 250 words.
As I grow up I plan to graduate a good college known as Nova South Eastern in Florida. I plan to get a degree in marine biology. Once i graduate, I plan to go and do an internship with SANCCOB in order to help many species of wild sea birds. After that I want to open a penguin rescue center for penguins that are highly affected by oil spills to give them a good life.
ReplyDeleteThat is really interesting Chloe. I to wish to go to a fine college. For me it would be in science, but marine biology is also cool. I also like that you would like to see many species of sea birds and open a penguin rescue center. I for one would also so like to make a shelter for animals. For me though, it would be endanger animals. I hope that these dreams come true.
DeleteAndy had a difficult life i could imagine but mine and Andy's dreams weren't too far apart. just like Andy i too want to have a wife and kids of my own some day but I also want to become a Master Chef and to hopefully work at a high end restaurant or to own my own shop. The only way I can make this plan come true is by working hard in school, focusing on my plans ahead, and to not get distracted. I have many obstacles to stop me from doing my plans but the one and most important is my family. Even though I'm not close to my mother but to the rest of my family i am and to separate from them is going to be very hard. I have a quote that will always stick to me forever, "Live today as if there was no tomorrow", and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
ReplyDeleteLuke you can do it, don't let anything get to you. Hold onto your dreams and believe in yourself. You can do what ever you set your mind too with hard work and courage.
Deletejust always keep in mind what i always tell you. This is your life and not your families, if you want these dreams to come true you can make it happen. I know you can.
DeleteEverything that you went through will make you such a stronger person. Dont let anyone hold you back from your dreams, you can do anything if you set your mind to it.:) "just do it" - nike
DeleteLuke, living like that and following your dreams is an excellent way to achieve what you want in life. Just remember, life is going to be hard, but if you stay passionate, and hang in there, you'll make it just fine in this complicated world.
DeleteMy future is full of things that I hope of doing. My dream first starts out me becoming a scientist. Then I would ethier own a library or work in one(for only a side activity). I also wish to have a big house that has a big personal library of all my favorite books. I would make all this come true by creating cures for people. But like most things at life, it will be hard. I would first have to study hard to become a scientist. Then get funding from people to create my work. Once I was finished, I would marry someone and sell what cure I made. Fianlly, I would need to use some of that money to build my house, retire, and have a nice life of accoplishment.
ReplyDeleteThats cool Tyler, the world needs more scientists and big thinkers out their. It's also inspiring how even if it's on the side you will continue to persue your love for reading. It's also nice of you to share your discovery or cure with the world to help with future progression. Aslong as you believe you can and work real hard I'm sure you'll be sucessful in making your dream a reality. Just keep up your grades and doing what you love.
DeleteThe words "Dreams from the future" is probably one of the most challenging words a teenager could respond to. Some people spend their whole life finding out what they want to do with themselves. Others find out early in their younger years that they may have a special passion for a certain task or subject. Luckily I've been blessed with discovering my love for film. It is the best form of entertainment these days, and its history and process is something I found to be strikingly interesting. So interesting that I decided to learn the ways of film production. I've produced my own short films, animations, and video work myself and continue trying to be as productive as possible.
ReplyDeleteA good plan into making my future come true is the first thing that comes to mind when you leave high school: College Schooling. The best way for me to learn everything I possibly can about the film industry is a healthy amount of schooling in my life. But the possible obstacles that arise appear more as life goes by. Once I hit College, such obstacle that I dealt with in High school like Time management, screenwriter's block, and lack of resources will all either change for the better, or become even bigger obstacles and create more.
While problems arise, at the time I will be more experienced in the work after high school, and will create methods of getting past such obstacles. Work in the film industry is something I found passion for, and I will do anything to get my name and my originality into the world.
Andy never expected something like this to happen to him, he had so many dreams. Some of my dreams and Andy's are the same. I do want to grow up and have a family and a marry someone I love. But unlike Andy, I want to become a kindergarten teacher and I to do something with theatre on the side. I don't want to move some place to far but I want to get out of my mile by mile and a half Ocean Gate. I want to be able to travel with friends and family. I've always wanted to go to Italy. I have family there and I think it would be amazing to go visit and meet them. I want to be able to get my license and my first car. I would love to go on a cross country road trip with a few people. I want to find out if I can try peanut butter with out dieing and see if I out grew my allergy. I want to pass the HSPA and my SATs and be able to graduate. Right now, I have a feeling it's going to be very hard to get some of my dreams to become reality. I have responsibilities here and I need to take care of them first. I have to get through some obstacles to get there. Some obstacles in my life might be that for the major tests, I need to try harder and focus on them more and study. For getting my car I need to get a job and save up the money. Also if I ever want to travel I need to get over my fear of heights and be able to take a plane. I need to grow up and face life and get past my fears. I want to live life to the fullest because if I was in a situation like Andy, I would think the same thing as him. That im only sixteen and I haven't even started living yet.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you have so many different dreams. You practically made yourself a mini bucket list. I also love the you feel it is time to face your fears. I've had many fears of my own and it came to a point when I was like this is useless, its time to move on. When you do, you will feel invincible I promise. I wish you luck with your life and always remember, your only here for a short amount of time, never forget to live up every minute you are here.
DeleteI have a few dreams for my future. For one, I would love to become a state trooper or an FBI agent. I want to fight crime and be the one on the front lines. I want to do something legendary. I want to be remembered for ever. I want a movie like J.Edgar made about me, just name it K.McConnell and I'll be happy. I plan on making them come true by continuing on past my vocational school and going to the police academy. But first, I'm going to enroll in a 4 year college and get a degree in criminal justice and forensics. After the academy I plan on working a force for a few years and after 3 years I will be eligible to apply for the FBI. So that takes me to 25 years old. Maybe I'll do something legit in my lifetime, maybe ill just get married and be a stay at home mom. Either way, I am and will be learning a lot along the way. Of course I will force some obstacles in my lifetime like any one else. I know for sure I will contemplate being a mom and having a career. That will probably be the biggest issue I will have. I never want my kids to grow up without parents around. Overall though, I most deffinatly would love to have a legendary life in the criminal justice field but some things are more important. Family comes first to me so that's how it may have to stay.
ReplyDeleteI think that you would make a great FBI agent! I love the fact that you have your life planed out till you are 25 and have everything worked out. It's really great how family comes first to you and I agree!
DeleteSome dreams for my future would have to be to wrestle division 1 in college. Also would be to make a lot of money and be well off. these have been dreams of mine since I was a little kid watching cartoons on TV. in this day and age that is not that difficult to make come true all its going to take is a little determination and little hard work.
ReplyDeleteWhat I plan on doing to make D1 wrestling come true is work harder than the guy in front of me. If I do that in no time I will be number one in the college wrestling world. What I am going to do to make my ability to make a lot of money is get good grades now so they pay off later. As long as I do my best it will not be a problem.
Their are a lot of obstacles that may not let this happen easily. One obstacle for being a D1 wrestler is going to be the training. Even though I train for long hours their is always a person out their striding to be me. One obstacle for making a lot of money would have to be the SAT test for getting into college. I always had trouble taking tests and this is the most important one of my life. To over pass my bad test taking skills I am going to be proactive and get studying right away and stride for a perfect score.
Some of my dreams for my future would to be successful, I want be successful, I want to eventually get married on a beach and have one child possibly two but no more then two! I want to attend and graduate the University of New Haven in Connecticut. I want to graduate with my doctors degree. From there I want to become a Forensic Pathologist from there I want to live in Vermont and have a husky. No matter what does or does not happen I just want to be successful. I also want to start a program called "Rise Above" it will help teenage male and females get through anything from abuse to bullying, that will be my side to do thing. Lastly, I want to volunteer at a local retirement home.
ReplyDeleteI plan to make my dreams to come true the same way Andy did by pushing myself as hard as needed to get through tough times. No matter what the case may be I will accomplish my goals I have set out for myself. For the love part it just has to come but as far as the forensic part goes I will be getting in all my sleep now while I can because I will be up all night in a hospital basement cutting up bodies and discovering new things.
Some obstacles in my life that I will have to fight to get across would be the amount of sleep I will or will not get. I am cranky if I don't get sleep so that might be a huge problem. Another obstacle I will; most likely face is love even though I say I want to get married and this and that I might not find it and that's ok my career comes first before anything. Lastly, is the fact that the school will cost mucho bucks! It will all be worth it in the end because I can pay it all off once my career gets up and running!
I agree with you when you say how you are going to make your dreams come true. The best way to get through tough times is to just push yourself threw them. The obstacles that you will face will really test the way you live your life and the person you will become in the future. Just keep working hard and striding to your goals.
DeleteAlthough Andy was a gang member, he still had definite dreams for his future. Andy wanted to marry Laura, and get out of his neighborhood. With dreams, come obstacles in order to make a dream come true. Just like Andy I have dreams and plans for the future that I would like to fulfill.
ReplyDeleteI also would like to get out of my neighborhood and move to New York. I want to be a broadcaster on the Today show, and also create a corporation. Me and Andy both know what we would like to do, but I do not want to get married or have kids like Andy does.
I'm planning on making my dreams come true by going to college, than interning at the Today show. I am sure I will face some struggles and obstacles but in the end it is all worth it. Some obstacles I may face are not being able to move to New York right away, also another obstacle may be I might not have enough time to have two big, time consuming jobs.
I hope my dreams and plans for the future come true, I am going to work very hard to make these dreams a reality so I can live a good happy life. Unfortunately Andy couldn't fulfill his dreams because of his tragic death, but I know he would have if he was still alive. Not only because Andy wanted to change so badly after he got stabbed but also because his life flashed before his eyes and he realized all the things he still is yet to do.
I have many dreams for the future. For my sooner future I want to play varsity softball and start kick boxing. Later in my life I want to go to college and become a physical education teacher, or a physical therapist. I want to travel the world and meet a lot of new people. Eventually I want to get married to someone that I have a lot of the same interests with and be able to travel with them. I want to be successful and I plan to work hard for it and do what it takes. I want to visit England with my friend because she use to live there. I want to visit other places too like Egypt and I really want to go to California. I want to stay in a foreign place for a while and learn their culture. I want to go skydiving and scuba diving. I want to go to beautiful places with waterfalls and mountains. I want to meet important people and learn about them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm done exploring and ready to settle down I want a house way in the mountains with a lot of land and a farm. I want horses, cows, and a whole bunch of other animals. I want a great dane and a teacup terrier. I want quads and fun toys like that. eventually I want kids but no sooner then 25. I only want 2 kids because I'm one of 5 and that's a bit much. I want to learn to cook more and make new things and I want to live in a small house, nothing to big just enough for me and my family, but I do want a spare bedroom incase of guests!
It's great how you know every little thing you want to do. I hope all of it happens and I think your going to be a great physical education teacher or therapist. I agree with only 2 kids I'm one of 3 and I still think its crazy. I hope everything works out in the end.
DeleteAs far as my future goes, I'm open to all possibilities and I'm ready to go wherever the wind takes me. However, I do have a few dreams thought up and fingers crossed they'll happen in time. I'm moving towards a career in graphic design because I really think being an artist is my calling, but since it's a competitive field that will probably be an obstacle of mine to face. Probably my main obstacle though will be family.
ReplyDeleteEver since I was a little girl, I've had this feeling at the back of my mind that I didn't want children. It's hard to explain, but I trust my instincts. I'm more of an animal lover, and I just want dogs to love and spoil instead. As far as numbers go I think I want about two or three of them. Labs are my breed of choice, but maybe a Doberman will complete the mix. Who knows, if I'm lucky, I'll also find the right guy to marry who feels the same way on subjects.
As far as where I want to live goes, I'd stay in New Jersey most likely. I practically live and breathe the ocean during the summertime, so a coastal town with a pet friendly beach would be a perfect home for me and my future dogs so we could play frisbee on the beach and splash through the waves. I'd like to travel to New York City a lot, plus tour Mediterranean countries like Italy, Greece, and Malta. I plan to live long and prosperous, but like I said earlier, I'll let fate take me anywhere.
My dream for the future is to travel the world see some sits. I'll go to europe and see the history, go to china for the culture, and make my way back to bayville where I will always have a home. Later on in life I'll settle down have a loving wife and kids with a job I love that comes with big paychecks at the end of each mounth. An average size house with a small beach house on the side would be nice with a pool and maybe even a dog. I'd have a job as an engineer building new cars, planes, or military weapons to protect our country. I could put the land the first person to put someone on Mars. My job would allow me to work from home to spend time with the family or go away on a business trips and bring them along for a vacation when my work is don't but I would always put family first. Right now it's only wishful thinking and it's up to me to make it a reality. Their are pleanty of obsticals in my way and overcoming them won't be easy. I still have the rest of my junior and senior years to look foward too in high school. Hopefully I'll get in MIT survive long enough for a bachelers degree. With ridiculusly high scores it shouldn't be to hard but their are no garenties in life. Now I just hope it works out that way.
ReplyDeleteAs I learn from my mistakes and grow each day I too like Andy would love to have a family of my own. I have dreams a goals that I want successfully do. When I get older I want to learn all I can about cooking, which mean I want to go around the world learning cultural food. As I have found out I have Celiac’s Disease. It’s a disease that makes my digestive system hard to process gluten. This makes it much harder to cook food, but I will overcome it and move on. I will learn all I can to show that I can cook without gluten. I have learned that dwelling on the things that are hard will keep you down, so always keep your head high and keep moving forward.

ReplyDeleteI have a lot of dreams for my future. I really want to run The Inaugural Navy Marathon and visit Israel. Also once I get out into the real world, I want to attend a Christian college for four years. I’m going to study criminal justice, accounting, Hebrew, Arabic, discipline and psychology. Then I'll need to have two years of work experience as an accountant to apply at The Federal Bureau of Investigationn (FBI).Once I start my career I want to get married, have children and get a mastiff.
ReplyDeleteIn order to make my dreams come true, I'll have to train hard and condition myself for the marathon. Also for college I have to put a hundred percent in my studies in order to get somewhere.
There will be a lot of obstacles in my life. It will be hard not seeing my family everyday but I know they are only a phone call away. I'll have limited time. The FBI requires you to travel and protect our nation from terrorist attacks/ criminals. I know it’s going be a very stressful job but at the same time it will be very rewarding.

DeleteI think your totally capable of doing everything you said.I agree with you when you said you want to get married after you get your career all laid out. That means your looking out for yourself making sure you ready mentally and financially. I totally agree with you 100% girl. ^_^
DeleteWhen i grow up, I don't really know what I want to be. I have dreams like any other, and
ReplyDeletethey kind of seem impossible to me. To me the two most important things I do would have to be writing
and singing. I see them as the best possible ways that I can truly express my self. They are the things
that I love to do and what I dream of doing for the rest of my life. For me to follow my dreams there would truly be a million obstacles in my way. Both of those careers or even just as a side one are very hard to find, recieve, be good at, and achieve. But it is something that I really wish to do and I plan to follow my dreams no matter what obstacles get in my way. Chorus helps my voice get better and better each day with warm ups and songs. While creative writing gives me the skills I will need to try my best at being a writer. There are many obstacles and I know that, but I will never give up. I am preparing myself for my own future.
Although I'm going to be eighteen in a couple of months, I have not yet started to plan for my future. I have so many dreams that it's hard to pick a single one. If I had to, I suppose I'd choose to follow through with my goal of becoming a gangsta rapper. It has been an ambition of mine ever since I was a little girl. As a child, while everyone else in my preschool was listening to The Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, I was listening to the captivating music of Ice-T, Tupac and Biggie Smalls. From the moment I heard N.W.A'S "Straight Outta Compton", I knew I was destined to be a thug. Since that day, I've been staying on my grind. I hustle like it's no one's business. People may look down on me for my lifestyle, but it's hard out there and I need to make paper any way that I can. Living in the hood has given me the tools that I need to become a gangsta rapper. I've seen many things that I wish I hadn't. I've done many things that I know will keep me out of heaven. Everyday, before I leave the house, my mother says "I hope you don't die in those streets." I always laugh it off. But the truth is, I fear for my life every second of everyday. Some may say my lifestyle is dangerous and that I'm crazy. Sometimes, I think I'm crazy, as well. I question whether I'm doing the right thing when I'm hustling outta hot blocks. I constantly have to remind myself that in the end, I'll be able to spread my message about the struggles of living in the projects through my music and my legacy will live on forever.
